Helping Children in Godinez, Guatemala:
Guatemala faces many social problems and is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. The CIA World Fact Book considers 54% of the population of Guatemala to be living in poverty in 2009 (Wikipedia)
Godinez is a small town 3 hour west of Guatemala City.
Getting an education can be a challenge for any child in Guatemala, especially the Mayan Indians in the Highlands. Only one out of eight girls gets through sixth grade.
We brought computers to a remote elementary school and an orphanage with children who went through extreme abuse and other life challenges at a very young age.
Our group brought 5 computers, 6 tablets, and dozens of basketballs, stuffed animals and books etc. We taught the children computers, English reading, played basketball and soccer with them.
